Research Fellow: June Heo, Ph.D.

Dr. Heo earned his Ph.D. degree from Ajou University School of Medicine.

The title of his Ph.D. thesis was "Regulation of DNA-PKcs-mediated immune signaling by the E3 ligase MARCH5 in mitochondria-damaged cells."

At the ATM lab, Dr. Heo's primary responsibilities are

(1) investigating the role of mitochondrial damage in senescent tumor cells and

(2) exploring the underlying signaling cascades in senescent tumor cells.

Post-Doctoral Fellow: Afzal Rana Aqeel, Ph.D.

Dr. Aqeel earned his Ph.D. from Chonnam National University Medical School.

His research focuses on protein-based immunotherapies, cell culture, and in vivo models.

At the ATM Lab, he is primarily investigating

(1) the molecular mechanisms underlying inflammatory senescent tumor cells and

(2) exploring the use of bacteria-based approaches to target and eliminate senescent tumor cells.

Integrated M.S.-Ph.D. Course: Jin Ho Bae

Mr. Bae earned his B.S. degree from Yonsei University.

At the ATM Lab, Bae's primary responsibility is to investigate the role of cellular senescence in prostate cancer metastasis.

His research focuses on spatiotemporal connections among primary tumors, circulating tumor cells, and bone metastases, with an emphasis on how cellular senescence contributes to each stage of cancer progression.

M.S. Student: Hyun Seo Yu

MS. Yu earned her B.S. degree from Ajou University.

At the ATM Lab, Yu’s primary responsibility is to uncover the phenotypic diversity of senescent tumor cells based on their microsatellite stability.

She is also investigating how microsatellite instability contributes to phenotypic differences between microsatellite-stable (MSS) and microsatellite-instable (MSI) colorectal cancers.

M.S. Student: Min Jung Sung

Ms.Sung earned her B.S. degree from Ajou University

At the ATM Lab, Ms. Sung’s primary responsibility is to investigate how epigenetic modulation changes during cellular senescence in cancer cells.

She is also exploring whether modulating these epigenetic changes can prevent cancer cells from entering senescence, and how this can be applied to the treatment of senescent cancer cells.
